A Pair of Wedding Ring Quilts
My friend was happy to hear the quilts would be auctioned for charity to someone who would value them
and that auction sale would support your group to make new comfort quilts for those in need.

I asked my friend for anything he could share about his Aunt to pass on with the quilts to their next family.

The Aunt was born in 1909 in Yonkers, NY and lived until 2017 so she was 108.
She always tried to keep up with her two older brothers, running the dirt roads and wooden sidewalks in Yonkers at the time.
She remembered watching the city tar the road when she was a young girl and also her mother's dismay the kids got tar on their shoes.
She was very active, she swam across the Hudson River in high school, and trained to teach high school Phys Ed which she did for over 25 years.
She was tough, but sometimes went a little easier on a girl in an early class who she knew was smart and started out as a good student but was having a rough time of it.
The girl was often working late nights, underage, singing in clubs at 14...her name was Ella Fitzgerald.

The Aunt always talked fondly of her mother as a great seamstress who made her family's clothes and also did quilting and embroidery.
The Aunt also talked of another relative, possibly her aunt, who could sew anything with perfect hand stitches; she worked as a professional seamstress
living with a well to do family making all their clothes.
The exact origin of the matching twin quilts, in wedding ring pattern, is not known but it is thought they were made in the early 1900's
either by the Aunt's mother or the other family member who worked as a professional seamstress.
They were cherished by this Aunt and if there was room they would be displayed but boxed up in a storage room is not the place,
better they should move to someone who can enjoy them.

I hope this helps with the auction and the quilts find a new home together, as two twins or joined together as one quilt.
