Comfort Quilt Workshops

the comfort quilt group continues to amaze us all. we handed out 600 quilts in the year 2021 to the many organizations we support. and over 300 pillow cases and 250 teddy bears. and most of these were made "in isolation" without the group workshops. quilters certainly find lots of ways to keep busy. and we are so thankful.
we continue to make kits and give them out individually.
We have no "dates" for group meetings at this time. but in spite of that we already have a large number of quilts to be delivered in the coming weeks. and we have almost reached our goal of 50 quilts for the Paul Newman Hole in the Wall Gang camp. (they are not to be delivered until June).
wow. all is great. thank you to everyone for the continued help and support of the program.

A hint for sizing of quilts (though all sizes can find a home), please see Comfort Quilt Sizes.

From Rosemary Koch
The last few months I have been preparing the following kits for QC Members. We are looking for support from you in completing these kits. If every member took at least one kit for charity, we would have a lot of kits completed. I am hoping your generosity and your time will allow you to take more than one and support these very worthwhile charities. We all have some extra time these days and I am convinced that our members will answer the call for those in need.
Please read the details for these kits. You can contact RoseMary by email for any questions.

What is Comfort Quilts?
Comfort quilt is where quilters, sewers, husbands, children and grandchildren come together to make things like quilts and teddy bears.
When they are completed, they are dispersed to different organizations.

Comfort Quilts have many and varied tasks. Every aspect of quilting is covered.
There are many hand-sewing projects that don't require a sewing machine.

  • Fabric can be cut and ironed.
  • Teddy bears are stuffed
  • Quilts are pin basted or tied
  • Bindings are finished by hand

For those who bring sewing machines,
  • quilt kits can be assembled
  • quilts can be machine bound

Everyone is encouraged to work on whatever appeals to them. Quilts often travel from table to table during the course of the day. It's a place to socialize and do something wonderful at the same time.

Our Spring comfort quilt get-together June 15, 2019 Photos are here. Last year we had approximately 65 people participating! It was a very busy and productive workshop. Over 100 teddy bears and monster animals were stuffed, kits were made and taken, quilts were sandwiched, tied, pinned, quilted and bounded. It was a lot of fun, and it was a wonderful space.

Comfort quilts get-togethers are available twice a month at Amy Fitzpatrick's house from 11:00 - 2:00 in Burlington, MA where a long arm machine is available.
Those who are interested in attending at Amy's house should email Jane Norberg (comfortquilts) or Amy Fitzpatrick (comfortquilts2) to let them know that you will be attending.

There is no need to RSVP for other comfort quilt workshops.

There are other places during the year that comfort quilts are held. Three at St. Margaret's Church in Burlington, and one at Tufts University.

See the photos of some of the participants.

Workshop Details

For those of you who have never been to a comfort quilt workshop, here's a run-down.

We have all kinds of things to do. There are a lot of hand sewing and projects that do not need a sewing machine.

  • There are lots of teddy bears that need to be stuffed,
  • finish off the binding by hand,
  • quilts to pin baste, and
  • quilts to tie.
For those who wish to bring a sewing machine,
  • we have quilts that need borders,
  • there are quilt kits that you can assemble,
  • we have quilts to bind, and
  • much much more.
If you want to iron, you can do that too.
Quilts are available at all stages and we encourage people to work on whatever they want.
Often the quilts go from table to table in the process.
Doesn't this sound like fun?
