Friday Workshop Details 9am - 4pm St. James
Eco-printing: An Introduction
Learn the basics of eco-printing, methods of mordanting cellulose and protein fibers, improving prints, and some of the plant materials that print well.
For a kit fee of around $40 (price tbd), participants will receive a pre-mordanted silk habotai scarf, and pieces of mordanted silk broadcloth, cotton, linen, and wool to use in class.
Additional pre-scoured (but unmordanted) scarves and cotton print cloth will be available to purchase and mordant in class, or bring moderate amounts of your own pre-washed fabric.
Mordants used will include Aluminum acetate, copper, iron, and soy milk, and possibly one or two surprises!
If there is interest and time allows, learn how to incorporate color from tissue paper and other.
Participants will be asked to bring enough leaves and other plant material from home to use themselves and share with others.
Those interested in doing more printing are welcome to sign up for both days!
